Find out more about the impressive history of Lesnes Abbey in these two illustrated talks.
The first talk concentrates on the foundation of the abbey in 1178, the story of its founder, Richard de Luci and its various ups and downs through to the time it was dissolved in 1525.
The second talk explores the background to the dissolution and what was involved. It looks at who owned the abbey afterwards, what was left of the abbey by the time of the excavations of 1909 and 1939 and finishes with details on the excavations and what we see today.
Both these talks have been given before at the Bexley Archives at the Central Library.
If you want the full story, you need to book both talks.
