Conservation

Join a group of volunteers working around the site to improve the habitat and encourage biodiversity.

We are now running three hours of conservation work on the first Sunday of the month led by one of our volunteers, Marc Tuft.

Meet outside CHESTNUT'S COFFEE KIOSK at 10:00 am. The group then collects tools and equipment from the yard that is opposite the toilets.

This is in addition to the regular session every Wednesday and is for those who want to help but are not available mid-week.

Britain is one of the least bio-diverse countries in the world and many of our native species are threatened by a lack of suitable habitat. This group meets on Wednesdays at 10:00 am at the north side of the Lodge by the yard entrance and helps not only maintain the current woodland, but also create new areas where wild flowers or wildlife can flourish.

The activities that this group undertake are varied and seasonal and include undergrowth clearance, removal of shrubs and trees where they are blocking light, creating glades, keeping the heathland in shape and maintaining the various ponds.

This tends to be fairly active work and may require walking with tools to remote parts of the woods, so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

All tools and materials provided.

This activity is arranged by Ian Holt, the Estate Manager, with the help of the Friends.

Wear boots suitable for muddy and overgrown land. Ideally bring your own gloves, although these can be provided. Do check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.
