Here's how they work.
This is a game that was played in Medieval England. There are many versions of quoits. These are our rules.
To score points by throwing the rope quoits (rings) over the hobs (upright pins).
Players stand at a designated distance from the hob and take turns throwing the quoits.
Ringer: A quoit that lands over a hob scores the points assigned to that hob. This is 3 points for the centre hob and 2 points for the outside hobs.
Closest Quoit: If there are no ringers, then the quoit closest to the hob scores 1 point.
The game is won by whoever has the highest number of points after three rounds.
This game is popular in America where there are leagues for corn board.
To score points by throwing bean bags onto the board and attempting to get them through the hole
Players stand at a designated distance from the hob and take turns throwing the bean bags underarm. Throwing any other way is a foul throw.
A beanbag that goes through the hole scores 3 points
A beanbag that lands and stays on the board scores 1 point.
At the end of each round, the player (or team) with the most points gets those points. Other players or teams get no points.
The game is won by whichever player or team gets to 21 points first.
To remove blocks from the tower without causing it to fall. Jenga means "to build" in Swahili.
Players build the tower. It consists of 54 blocks arranged in 18 layers of three blocks. Each layer is rotated by 90 degrees from the one below it.
The oldest player starts. Players take turns removing blocks from the tower using one hand only. They must not steady the tower in any way. Once a block is touched, it MUST be removed!
The game is won by whichever player does NOT cause the tower to collapse.
This is a fairly modern game and more of a personal challenge than a competition.
To get the ball to the top of the wall without losing it off the side or in the holes. The ball is moved up the wall in the wooden ring using the two strings to move it up and down and from side to side.
If you want to compete then you should time how long it takes each player to get the ball to the top. The winner is who did it the fastest.
Logatts is an ancient English game that is rarely played today but was very popular in medieval times. These are rules adapted for this festival.
To score points by throwing the logatts so the the round end is closest to the small ball, or jack. The jack can be positioned at the start of each game by a throw.
Players stand at a designated distance from the jack and take turns throwing the logatts underarm. It is permissable for Logatts to knock other logatts out of the way or move the jack.
At the end of each round the player with the end of a logatt closest to the jack gets one point and an additional point for all their other logatts that are closer to the jack than any of those of the opponent. For example if 2 of your logatts are closest to the jack, you get 2 points. Distance is always measured from the END of the logatt.
The game is won by whichever player gets to 6 points first.
